When Reiki Meets the Healthcare Field

Kanke Fierro’s experience between support and holistic care

Some paths begin with a decision, while others begin with an experience.

In the case of Kanke Fierro, Reiki came into her life at a time when she was going through a particularly difficult period. After several surgeries and a complex recovery process, she discovered this practice and personally experienced how it could accompany her during that time and contribute to a greater sense of well-being.

From that experience came a question that would eventually transform her path:

“If Reiki could accompany me, could I also learn it to accompany other people?”

More than ten years later, that question continues to be present in the way she understands Reiki.

Kanke Fierro: a journey born from experience

Kanke lives and works in Málaga, Spain, where she works as a Reiki Master and therapist.

Her training as a Usui Tibetan Reiki Master was the result of a journey that began with a personal experience and, over time, developed into a profession and a way of supporting other people.

Throughout more than ten years of experience, she has worked with people of different ages and needs, from newborns to older adults.

For Kanke, each person requires careful attention to their individual circumstances. For this reason, she considers it important to continue learning, expand her knowledge, and gain a deeper understanding of the different situations faced by the people she accompanies.

Her training includes Emotional Intelligence at FGUMA, part of the University of Málaga, as well as additional training in Bio-listening and Biodecoding.

She is currently continuing her studies as a Vibrational Therapist, training with Dr. Laura Gámez in the field of Frequency Medicine.

Reiki in a healthcare setting

An important part of Kanke’s professional experience takes place at Centro Médico Clínica Acosta in Málaga, where she works alongside doctors, physiotherapists, psychologists, and podiatrists.

This experience has influenced the way she understands the place of Reiki within a care process.

For Kanke, each discipline has its own competencies, knowledge, and responsibilities. From this perspective, she understands Reiki as a complementary practice that can accompany other forms of care without replacing the work of healthcare professionals.

This approach requires responsibility, as well as the ability to listen and understand each person’s context.

Care from an integral perspective

Kanke’s professional experience has led her to place particular value on an integral approach to care.

For her, caring for a person does not necessarily mean choosing a single form of support. Different professionals can contribute through their own knowledge and responsibilities.

From this perspective, complementarity becomes important.

Reiki can occupy a place within this approach as a complementary practice, always respecting the work of healthcare professionals and the role of each discipline.

This way of understanding her profession has also led her to seek clear communication with other professionals and to gain a deeper understanding of different situations and needs related to the people she accompanies.

Training, experience, and the search for knowledge

Continuing education holds an important place in Kanke’s journey.

In addition to her training as a Reiki Master, her studies in Emotional Intelligence, and other complementary areas, she continues to seek new knowledge that can broaden her understanding of supporting others.

She has also participated in events and initiatives related to Reiki and the healthcare field.

In 2022, she was a speaker at the Congress of the Spanish Reiki Federation. She also participated, together with Dr. Pablo Acosta, in the symposium “Bringing Reiki Closer to the Clinical Setting.”

She also collaborated with the World Reiki Research project, which focuses on challenges related to Reiki research and its possible integration into public health.

These experiences are part of an ongoing search: learning, researching, and understanding different perspectives on care.

A story that continues

Kanke’s story with Reiki began in a hospital bed.

What was initially a personal experience eventually became the beginning of a professional journey spanning more than ten years.

Today, her work brings together training, practical experience, continuous learning, and an interest in finding a responsible place for Reiki within a broader understanding of care.

Her journey also reflects something that is part of her work: the possibility of continuing to learn from each person, each experience, and each encounter.

And perhaps that is why the phrase continues to accompany her:

“Reiki looks for you and finds you. It found me in a hospital bed.”
