Phytotherapy Is More Than Tea
There Are Different Ways to Prepare and Use a Medicinal Plant
When we talk about medicinal plants, many people immediately think of the traditional cup of herbal tea.

And yes, teas or, more technically, infusions and decoctions, depending on the part of the plant being used, are part of phytotherapy.
But the world of medicinal plants is much broader.
Depending on the species and the purpose, we can find preparations such as extracts, tinctures, syrups, ointments, creams, compresses, poultices, plasters, medicinal oils, and other formulations.
Each preparation method can change the way a plant’s components are extracted and, consequently, the quantity and profile of the substances present in the preparation.
That is why there is no single correct way to use a plant.
The preparation needs to take into account which plant is being used, which part of it has therapeutic interest, which compounds we want to extract, and the purpose of its use.
And it is precisely this knowledge that distinguishes the conscious use of plants from simply “drinking tea because someone said it works.”
