Reiki Lineage: Importance and Fidelity to the Method

This content complements: What Are Reiki Lineages and How They Work
The importance of lineage in Reiki lies in the fact that the student should be initiated by a master who is part of a lineage descending from Mikao Usui.
It is possible to be part of more than one lineage; however, the energy used remains the same, with differences in the method of application, certain techniques, and/or the use of symbols.
It is not possible to pass on the technique of a specific lineage if the master does not belong to it, as the master must remain faithful to the original teachings and the knowledge received, so as not to distort the essence.
Mikao Usui taught that the practice should be simple and that we should seek new ways to apply and use Reiki. However, we should not disregard the fundamental teachings that connect us to the original method.
His teachings emphasized direct connection with the energy, practice, and personal experience, which are intrinsically linked.
Therefore, continuous practice and the teaching of what he established are superior to lineage.
In conclusion, for Mikao Usui, being faithful to the true lineage means maintaining the practice in its essence and living according to the Five Reiki Principles (Gokai).
