Silence Became Uncomfortable

We live surrounded by stimulation.
Short videos.
Notifications.
Fast-paced audio.
Endless information.
Infinite content.
Most of the time, we do not even realize how immersed we are in all of it.
And perhaps one of the quietest consequences of contemporary life is this:
silence has started to feel uncomfortable.
Spending a few minutes without picking up the phone feels strange.
Waiting without stimulation creates anxiety.
Stopping can feel unsettling.
As if overstimulation had reduced our ability to simply be.
But human beings were not made to live only in acceleration.
The body needs pauses.
The mind needs space to breathe.
The nervous system needs moments of regulation.
Perception needs silence to reorganize what it feels.
Maybe that is why so many people feel tired even when they are not “doing that much”.
Because it is not only physical exhaustion.
There is also exhaustion from excess:
too much noise, comparison, speed, information, and constant stimulation.
And in this context, practices of presence and care can play an important role.
Not as an escape from reality.
Nor as a magical attempt to disconnect from life.
But as spaces for reconnection.
Moments when the body slows down.
Breathing changes.
Attention returns.
And presence slowly begins to reappear.
Maybe silence is not emptiness.
Maybe it simply reveals what excess had been hiding.
